Updates: Super Typhoon Mangkhut (Ompong) Intensifies, Threatens Luzon, Philippines


A super typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut) is getting stronger and threatens Luzon, Philippines September 15, 2018. Super typhoon Ompong could reach up to Category 5 and it will go first to the Mariana Group of Islands which will then traverse going to Luzon Philippines.

According to Weather News Agency that Super Typhoon Mangkhut will enter PAR this September 12 and it will be called Neneng. It will bring heavy rainfall and officials already warned the public to keep updated and be ready in any case that this Super Typhoon might bring and may bring damages to the mainland.

Ariel Rojas, weather forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said Mangkhut is expected to make landfall over the Cagayan-Batanes area on Saturday.

He said Mangkhut’s winds might reach 205 kilometers per hour before approaching the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday.



“As early as Thursday we will raise tropical cyclone warning signals over Northern Luzon and adjacent areas that could experience strong winds from Mangkhut,” Rojas said.
