ILOILO CITY -- Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog ordered the temporary closure of shopping stores at the newly opened Ayala Atria after a major canopy collapsed last Sunday at the height of heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Egay (Lanfi).
Mabilog said he ordered the City Engineering Office, in coordination with the Ayala management, to conduct an inspection and investigation on what caused the collapse.
He said the shopping mall can be re-opened immediately once the city engineer and building officials recommend its safety.
The newly constructed shopping mall of Ayala had it soft opening last month. It has a canopy that covers some specialized stores to present a street shopping mall concept.
