GENERAL SANTOS CITY - The Mines and Geosciences Bureau inspected the site of a suspected sinkhole in General Santos City, which forced the evacuation of dozens of families.

MGB officials said the alleged sinkhole is caused by coastal erosion or when the sand on the seashore moves and creates a whirlpool-like effect in the sea. Further tests will be done by the MGB using ground penetrating radar to determine the cause of the coastal erosion.

The MGB has declared barangay Dadiangas South a danger area and prohibited residents from going back

Forty-six families have been evacuated since Sunday.
